Tom Scanlon's Interview with Keith Beaulieu from The Main Pub in Manchester CT

How long have you been in business and how did you get started?

The Main Pub has been in business for 31 years and we got started when my father turned a one room “Gin Mill” into a full service restaurant, lounge and bar.  He took a chance and just tried to treat everyone right. I grew up in the business and became the owner in 2004.  I got started as a bartender then went on to learn the ins and outs of running a successful restaurant.

Who does your restaurant appeal to and why?

I feel The Main Pub appeals to people of all ages and backgrounds.  I feel this way because we present a very warm and comfortable environment for all to feel right at home.  We can appeal to the senior citizen or to the 21-year-old couple.  We are also great for families and groups of friends.  Our menu provides something for everyone as does our atmosphere and entertainment.

What is your favorite dish in your restaurant?

My favorite dish is our Prime Rib.  It is so tender and seasoned just right.  It has been a staple at The Main Pub for as long as I can remember.  There is nothing like a freshly prepared 16oz. piece of Main Pub Prime Rib with a tasty beer or nice glass of wine.

What is the best thing you like about your business?

The best thing I like about my business is making people happy.  I love when a customer comes in and is blown away about their experience here.  I really like hosting guests like The Main Pub is my home and they are family.  When our customers leave happy and fulfilled, it is the ultimate reward

If there was one thing you could change about your business what would it be?

This is an easy one.  That would be our parking situation.  We are limited in what we have and it can be a problem at times.  It can prevent people from stopping in.  Unfortunately, we are “land locked” around us for property to expand.  We always try our best to share with our customers the parking choices they do have, like the street and other spots.    If I could change one thing, it would be to add many more parking spaces.
