Why I No Longer Need The Yellow Pages Phone Book

This past weekend the Yellow Pages phone book was delivered to my home.  When I got to work the next morning, another one was on the front step.  At home, it never even made it into the house.  I just put it in the recycle bin in the garage.  I suspect I will do the same with the directory delivered to my office.

Here is why I no longer need the Yellow Pages phone book:

  • I don’t use it anymore, and haven’t in a few years.  It’s not that I’m a computer geek.  I still don’t have an electronic device that begins with the letter “I” (phone, touch or pad).  However, I’m also not a Luddite.  I can (usually) manage my computer just fine.  With this, I can get most of the information I need.
  • I don’t have a land line at home.  There really was no need for it since my entire family has a cell phone.
  • The Yellow Pages phone book is not very friendly to the environment.  I don’t know how many other people do what I did and put it in the recycle bin.

Apparently some businesses are still advertising in this medium.  I suspect it’s because they don’t have a website or any other online presence.  Or, perhaps, it’s just inertia.  Small businesses, like people, get into habits.  When the bill comes in, they just pay it.

I’m just wondering…

Do you still get the Yellow Pages phone book?  Do you ever use it?
