This past weekend the Yellow Pages phone book was delivered to my home. When I got to work the next morning, another one was on the front step. At home, it never even made it into the house. I just put it in the recycle bin in the garage. I suspect I will do the same with the directory delivered to my office.
Here is why I no longer need the Yellow Pages phone book:
- I don’t use it anymore, and haven’t in a few years. It’s not that I’m a computer geek. I still don’t have an electronic device that begins with the letter “I” (phone, touch or pad). However, I’m also not a Luddite. I can (usually) manage my computer just fine. With this, I can get most of the information I need.
- I don’t have a land line at home. There really was no need for it since my entire family has a cell phone.
- The Yellow Pages phone book is not very friendly to the environment. I don’t know how many other people do what I did and put it in the recycle bin.
Apparently some businesses are still advertising in this medium. I suspect it’s because they don’t have a website or any other online presence. Or, perhaps, it’s just inertia. Small businesses, like people, get into habits. When the bill comes in, they just pay it.
I’m just wondering…
